In 2022 we kicked off our first farm development in Iowa on 400 acres near Ottumwa. This 52 acres is located in the same area where that farm was. If you're interested in seeing some of the deer this area is capable of producing, go check out those videos again.
The area is predominantly cattle country and timber. With some strategically placed food, these farms can be crazy good. For just 52 acres, the farm has an appealing layout.
On the south side there is a good home or cabin site near the road. The main focal point is a narrow field pinch in the center that can be used to bring deer through in bow-range. It has the ideal shape to create a classic green to grain transition. Currently the field is planted to alfalfa. Surrounding the field on three sides are thick wooded draws.
